Healing is on the Other Side

When we feel pain in this life, we do all we can to prevent it from happening again. In a vain attempt to protect ourselves from further hurt or avoid being seen as complex and emotional beings when we express our painful experiences, many of us put up walls around ourselves.

Even though we cannot see these walls, they act like huge fortresses, becoming impenetrable. We may feel like we are protecting ourselves but our wonderful personalities, gifts and talents are prevented from being revealed to those around us. With walls up, people cannot begin to discover who you truly are.

Sometimes it is difficult to recognise that you may have built walls around yourself. As people caught in the awful prison system may begin to feel comfortable in that environment, it is easy to find comfort where no one can truly get to know the real you, because that is where you have been for so long. Yes, you may not get hurt by other people directly but the pain that those impassable walls may cause is often deep rooted, leaving scars that were not intended to be left.

In the Bible, the Israelites did not bring down the wall of Jericho by force but by faith and obedience. Likewise, to deconstruct the walls we have built around ourselves over many years doesn’t require human understanding but prayer, faith and obedience. To be able to open ourselves up again both to God and to the people around us we are fighting a spiritual battle.

It is impossible to be known when your true self is hidden away behind dark walls. God created us to be known by Him and by the people in our lives so we can receive the love of others and be healed from our pain. True healing cannot and will not occur as long as the walls that you have built are not broken down. To break down your walls, begin with prayer. Ask God to heal you and open you up spiritually to receive his love and blessings. When the walls come down, that is when healing begins
